Quite Ordinary – Gender Stereotypes

The Quite Ordinary series of photographs is based on queer theory. It represents how people perceive gender and how the performance of woman- and manhood differs from person to person. The aim was to give the viewer several options to read the pictures and the visual orders that appear in the photos. In my self-portraits I examine where I can place myself in relation to the gender roles represented by the people – on the line between “ideal womanhood” or its contrast “ideal manhood”. Hence I am reflecting on – with the means of critical image reading – where will my identity and gender be placed in relation to the viewpoint of the prevailing hetero norm.
